where do you go to get your photos printed?

since i’ve used up all my free credits at snapfish (and i love their prints!!), i’m hunting for another reasonably priced and good quality photo printer service – either online or brick and mortar.

i know there’s shutterfly and winkflash and of course, walgreens, target, walmart, etc. i’ve tried most but not all.

a few days ago, i uploaded some of my photos to costco to see how the prints would turn out. when my order was submitted, i saw that auto-correction was “on”. i promptly called the store and told them i want the auto-correction “off”. the lady at the photo center told me that they turn off all auto-corrections unless a customer specifically called and say they want it on. i repeatedly said to her, “then you’re going to turn it off even though it’ll come across as on?” “yes, m’am” was what i got. i asked if there was any way i could turn it off myself online before i submit in my order and she said “no”.

the next day, i went and picked up my photos and looked at most of them. they were okay. i got them in the “lustre” finished. i walked out into the light and took another look at the photos and some of them look a little dark. again, they were okay but i wasn’t really impress and wouldn’t use them again. i love costco for a lot of things but it looks like photo printing will not be one of it. it could definitely just be the auto-correction but if there isn’t any way for me to turn it off, i wouldn’t print through them.

i do remember an incident about 4 years ago when i took some negatives to costco for enlargements. they were photos that my family had taken at a photo studio and they gave us the negatives. i love those studios btw. about 1/3rd of those enlargements came out much much darker compared to the prints from the studio. i’m not sure why. i didn’t think to take them back then.

walgreens was running a promotion of 20 free prints two days ago and i took advantage of that to try them out too. i picked up my prints yesterday (in a glossy finish) and were truly impressed! yea!! i think walgreens is now at the top of my list for a B&M photo service. the prints just look really good, much better than costco’s.

okay so now, tell me where you go to get yours printed?

Sometimes I get my prints from shutterfly whenever they have a good promotion because I like their matte finish and white border line they provide.

I know a new place that has 400 free prints 4 x6 artscow.com, my sister in law printed from their place and it’s pretty good. It’s a Hong Kong base printing service so the shipping is a bit high but it’s not bad to worth the try.
