faith’s birthday was a blast!

June 30th, 2009 § 0

we had a marvelous time on sunday!!!

the birthday party started at 2pm…i was up til 12am preparing and baking the night before. i baked 2 ice cream cakes, and a princess cake for faith.

the sucky thing was that i forgot my camera during the WHOLE party and have literally NO PICTURES!! *cries* the ones above were taken by my sister. i was very busy the whole time and didn’t realize i had no photos until later. :(

faith and just about everyone had a wonderful time though. we had her party at a clubhouse and it was HOT!!! even with the fans and a/c on. a bunch of her friends, nieces, and nephews came. everyone sang “happy birthday” and eat the first round of cakes and curry noodles. then everyone went swimming – yes everyone! at one point, there were only 3 of us left in the clubhouse.

2 hours later, everyone started coming back and we had another round of cakes and curry noodles. by this time, all the kiddies were just about bummed out and so are the adults! LOL we got everything cleaned up by 6pm and again, boy was it hot or what? i think it was 105 degrees on sunday. *yikes*

anyway, i’m really glad faith had a great time – all that time we spent baking the cakes and decorating it was really fun. i could tell she was really excited and happy because she kept telling everyone about the princess cake that we made. i am glad too that we didn’t just go out and buy a cake. i believe this is going to be one of those unforgettable moments she’ll remember for a long time. that, to me, is priceless and totally worth it!

no baby yet

June 25th, 2009 § 0

i’m still here and no baby yet. i’m currently 38 weeks and 2 days.

i had my weekly doc’s appt yesterday and there were a few small changes. i’m still closed but 40% thinned out and soft. she felt i should make it pass this weekend’s birthday bash. :D at next week’s appt, we’ll be discussing a possible induction if the little guy doesn’t make his appearance by the due date.

i’m just excited that at least there are changes. i would so go out and take lotsa walks but i do not want to anything big happening until after the weekend.

did i mention that we have the hospital bag all packed and ready by the coats closet? we have the car seat washed and waiting; the bassinett is still in the box but can be put up anytime and so is the playard. i’m getting kinda nervous too. LOL

a present for faith

it’s getting closer and closer to my girl’s 6th birthday – wow! it’s really been 6 amazing years!

hubby and i went to borders the other day looking for something to get her since we’re not buying much this time around. we came across the last copy of tinkerbell and we knew she’s going to LOVE it! actaully, hubby and i can’t wait to watch it too, funny huh?

tinkerbell

i can’t wait to see her face when she opens this up. lol

today is my first day on leave – it fells great! i get to stay home and do nothing but spend time with the girls. i still have to go to the doctor’s 3x a week until the baby comes but that’s alright. it’s just nice to take things slowly and easily and not have to worry about rushing here and there.

anyway, i’m looking forward to the next couple of months of quality family time. :D

freebies – sort of.

June 21st, 2009 § 0

so courtesy of slickdeals (isn’t it always? :D), we found these magikan free for shipping.

it looks exactly like this diaper dekor plus diapering system on amazon. i said to james, we can get two so i can use one for the baby’s diapers and one for our kitchen trash. we ordered two and pay $25 shipping.

magikan – built-in door for taking out trash

they arrived in two days via fedex on friday. we opened them and was very impressed. instead of individual trash bags, you get this big roll of 1 trash bag that you can cut with the attached bag cutter and make additional trash bags. that way, you’re usually not smelling the trash since you’re taking them out from the bottom built in door. the bags have a nice fresh scent. hopefully, that will help with the odor. either way, for $12.50, it’s definitely not a bad deal. the bags too, are supposed to last months.

we have one in our kitchen right now and it’s working great so far. the one in our bedroom for the dirty cloth diapers is still waiting. ;)

almost there and birthday bash

June 18th, 2009 § 0

i’m officially full-term! i’m 37 weeks and 2 days and ever since i was told i’m gestational, i’ve not gain a pound. i guess that’s good right? i did gained a total of 30 pounds.

faith is also turning 6 next wednesday and she’s really really excited!! we’re planning a birthday bash for her – i’m hoping to make it both frugal and as eco-friendly as i possibly can within budget. that means we’re not using any plastic plates, cups, or utensils. i don’t think i have enough cloth napkins so if i have to, i’ll have to hunt for some recycled-napkins.

we are going to pick out some cake mixes and bake the cake ourselves instead of buying – she’ll love that. we created and printed invitations last night – they’re very cute! as for food, i’m going to make some curry noodles and some asian salad.

for party favors, i’m going to check out the dollar store as they’re suppose to have cute little inexpensive things that i can get.

we aren’t doing a lot of gifts this year – i’m going to give her a target giftcard – the $25 that i got from the nicole’s advantage (i switched the card to a “happy birthday” giftcard), a gift basket, and a personalized story book. that way she can go shop for something she likes.

for now, i hope the little guy will wait until sometime after his sister’s birthday bash to make an appearance. ;)

District B13

district b13

if you know me, you’ll probably know i love chinese movies – especially martial arts. well then, it was pretty surprising that i managed to watch district b13 last night with the hubby, courtesy of netflix’s watch instantly online.

this is not just any movie, it’s a french action movie (so we were reading subtitles but that’s nothing new), and much better than expected. i only played it because of some glowing reviews and i’m glad we did. all in all, a very enjoyable movie and the guys were very nimble. there were a few stunts like jackie chan’s and i thought i even saw a flying knee kick to the chest like tony jaa’s. what i liked about this is that the majority of the stunts doesn’t look like they use wires. that’s a big plus in my book.

if you get a chance, do pick it up. i’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

For eye-popping kinetic thrills, District B13 tops the class. In the near future, the worst ghettos of Paris have been walled in and left to rot. When a neutron bomb gets stolen by a criminal kingpin in seedy District B13, Damien–a cop who specializes in deep cover assignments (Cyril Raffaelli, a stuntman turned actor)–has to team up with Leito (David Belle), who grew up in the district and has his own reason for going back: the kingpin kidnapped his sister (tough yet adorable gamine Dany Verissimo). The plot takes a few preposterous turns, but it’s beside the point–every turn serves only to maintain the relentless flow of sheer physical prowess. Belle is one of the inventors of a sport called parkour, which treats a city’s architecture like an obstacle course; while running from gun-toting thugs, Leito leaps, bounds, and scrambles up and down buildings with astonishing grace. The fight sequences are just as down-to-earth yet over-the-top as Damien whirls, kicks, and crunches through armies of bad guys. Just as important is the tongue-in-cheek tone that never turns smirky; the movie doesn’t take itself seriously, but doesn’t mock itself or its basic cinematic pleasures. Anyone looking for a break from the overbearing CGI and self-important pomp of Hollywood action movies should watch District B13. –Bret Fetzer
