Thai Drama – Kaew Tah Pee

first, this drama left me with something missing…unsatisfied and annoyed even.

WARNING: may contain spoilers!

this is the first full thai drama i have ever watched. it had english subs (thanks to those who translated) on youtube (13 episodes).

synopsis: lada is a kindergarten teacher who was about to committ suicide. chisanu (referred to as “nu”) is a rich blind millionaire who accidentally bump into lada, causing her to fell off the bridge (sorta). he talked her out of trying to committ suicide. she thought he was a poor blind fisherman and helped him out. when he was called to go to france for a cornea surgery, he tricked her into marrying him so she can go with him (supposedly because he have no family; and oh won’t she help him until he could see again?). soon, everyone around them is meddling in their life, wanting to break them up. in the middle of that pack is nu’s married ex-girlfriend, lizzy and lada’s married ex-boyfriend, t-pheb. a million annoyingly misunderstandings later, they’re together.

i have to say this drama had a promising start. unfortunately, i felt that was pretty much it.

the gals are very pretty and the gents are handsome, but the things holding this drama back are the weak characters and repeatedly annoying misunderstandings that make the characters seem even weaker. i’m not saying the actors or actresses are weak, just their characters.

the ones i thought did good were:

prur; although she was dramatic and over-acted in some places, she was hilarious and for the most part believeable.

lizzy – she played the evil mean character quite well. she was the one i thought knew what she wanted and went for it in a straight manner, literally.

amitada – her character was believable. i mean, what else could she do when her mom and aunt (prur) are filling her heads with things daily?

p-thep – prur’s husband, who is lada’s ex-boyfriend. he played the weak character very well. always giving in to his wife – for the most part and his expressions were funny!

amaj – actually, i can’t decide if i like this character or not. he’s observant and cute. but towards the end, i just wanted him to stop wasting lada’s time and let her leave nu.

here are characters i thought were weak:

nu: i thought he was good at first, and then he got repeatedly stupid. after the first 2 misunderstandings, in which he totally misunderstood lada, he apologized and asked her to forgive him because he assumed this and that. and even then, everytime something comes up, he always assumed lada is the guilty party! that’s just one stupid man! and what guy let his MARRIED ex-girlfriend moved in with them? is he not at least a little distrustful of his ex since he knew how she’s like? to me, this character was not strong (he’s always easy to be mislead by his ex), and definitely not likeable to me. i was rooting for lada to leave at the end. oh, and when he argued with lada and she left to go elsewhere, he doesn’t seem worried about her AT ALL! it’s only when he found out he misjudged her that he started worrying about where she is. ‘nough said.

lada – she’s weak too! he always think she’s meeting her ex or whatever, yelled at her, disregarded her feelings, and she still forgave him. all she does is cried and let him bossed her around, watched him flirt with his ex…etc. it was annoying. plus she was way TOO nice! she even let his ex bossed her at well and all the while cooked for them. at most, after the first couple of times, i did wish she’ll leave his @ss! keep in mind, all of these things happended after nu regained his vision but pretended to be blind still.

pruk – i thought he was sweet at first. he was in france the whole time. called nu when a cornea was found. helped cleared up misunderstandings and problems for nu and lada. and stood up for lada. and again and again and again. that was when it became obvious that apart when doing these 2 things, he’s got no life in the drama. nope. nada. when did it got annoying? he can always seem to locate nu’s ex, lizzy, even when her husband can’t. and sometimes he imparted just a little more information than she needs when he approaches her at her hotel (he never goes in).

as for the chemistry between the leads, i didn’t thought there was much of it there to be convincing. i don’t know – something just wasn’t there. nu seems too detached sometimes and lada was pushing him away too much when he tried to hug her. so…in a sense they don’t seem… connected? something like that.

favorite quotes: both are from prur

to amitada (her niece) : “i will slap you out of kinship!” too funny!

talking to her dad on the phone while nodding her head real hard and looking at p-thep (her husband): (paraphrasing)

“dad, i want you transferred him to another place. preferrably some place that is at war or where there are no women! and this time, i’m not going with him!” needless to say, i was cracking up!

ratings: :D out of 5. i would not watch it again though. (i wrote this over a 5 day period)
